Okay, I love them all but am enamored with Adirondack Red Spruce. Post pictures if you have any, Bruce

Anything red. That is, Red Spruce, Redwood.
I also like Sitka quite a lot.

I seem to be hit by the same image upload issues that others have had....

primarily sitka, but have a good stash of engelmann about to be put to use, and adi a couple of times. Was just in Norway and fell in love with some spruce there...going back in August and hopefully will bring some home.

European spruce is my favourite, my second favourite is European spruce, third, European spruce.

I think I may like the lutz and can put up with Redwood and WRC just about. Don't mention sitka .

Sitka is GREAT ! ! !

Colin, that surprises me...it's a fantastic tonewood, and it's still widely available.

Tsk tsk......

LUTZ, LUTZ and maybe some more LUTZ, ADI, ADI and maybe some more ADI! Heard a lot of good things about redwood and WRC!

I really like Bearclaw figured Sitka, like the variations in color and working with WRC,and love the Engelman Spruce as well. They all give me something different, which is better or do I like the most, hard to say, I get from each what I expect so I love them all.

I have not worked with Adi,or Lutz but do plan on trying both on a couple in my next batch.

I think it would have to be either Lutz, Redwood, Cedar, Euro, Engelmann,
adirondack, carpathian, sitka, Italian, or swiss.... yeah for sure one of them.

For playing - cedar, because I play mostly fingerstyle.
For building - spruce, because cedar dents if you look at it wrong.

Great comments.

Steve S. you are right about red cedar. My son bobbled his dovetail neck, not yet attached, sent it flying in the air, and guess where it landed, right on the cedar top. He slid it back on the shelf, and slinked out of the shop.

I haven't even looked at it yet, that was a few days after Christmas.

Turns out, there just isn't a bad top wood, a good specimen of each mentioned would make most luthiers and players happy. I just love good wood.

So far, Carpathian.

The next two I build will be close to identical, but I am going to build one with Carp, and one with Adi, just to see if there is a significant difference. I'm also starting to think about an OM, and will try some of Shane's Lutz on that one.

Sitka--Bearclaw Sitka.
And I appreciate, and agree with the comments from Mike S. I've got a Lutz on the bench now, and will report back on the sound.

Really kinda depends on the guitar I'm building. I like adi, lutz and sitka (specially the bearclaw) best. I've also used cedar, redwood and engelmann and like them too. Hmmmm, I guess I didn't pick a favorite did I?
